The statue of Anonymus, located in Budapest’s City Park (Városliget, Castle of Vajda Hunyad ), is a nearly two-metre-high creation. Anonymus, meaning “nameless,” is believed to have been a notary of one of Hungary’s Béla kings (I, II, III, or IV), with the strongest likelihood being King Béla IV. This statue is one of ten works gifted to the nation by Emperor Franz Joseph I in the early 20th century. The pedestal was designed by architects Zoltán Bálint and Lajos Jámbor.
