Kossuth Lajos Square, located in Budapest, is one of the most symbolic sites of Hungarian statehood, alongside the Parliament Building. It holds a significant place in the modern history of Hungary and is rightfully considered the “main square of the nation.” The equestrian statue of Prince Ferenc Rákóczi II also stands here, erected in 2000 to mark the 200th anniversary of the leader’s death. The square is located in the V. district of Budapest, in the Lipótváros area. Its irregular shape has posed challenges to architects and builders throughout its history.
Since January 1, 2012, the square has been Hungary’s only designated national memorial site, which includes the Parliament Building, the Ethnographic Museum, and the Ministry of Agriculture.
