City Park Lake – Budapest

City Park Lake is an artificial lake located in the heart of Budapest. From spring to autumn, visitors can enjoy boating and pedal boating on the lake while admiring the surrounding area, including the picturesque Vajdahunyad Castle. In winter, part of the lake transforms into an ice rink, making it a popular destination for skating enthusiasts. With a depth of just 60–70 centimeters, the lake is unsuitable for swimming.

The origins of City Park Lake date back to the 18th and 19th centuries, when canalization and land reshaping led to its creation. In 1863, the lake underwent regulation, resulting in the formation of three islands: Marsh Island, Wire Island, and Peacock Island. Today, these islands no longer exist in their original form. The Széchenyi Thermal Bath now stands where Marsh Island once was, Vajdahunyad Castle occupies the former Wire Island, and Peacock Island has been reshaped into a peninsula.
