Located in Budapest, the Inner City Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands on remnants of a Roman building, situated at Március 15 Square. Beneath the church lies the commander’s room of the Contra Aquincum military fortress, dating back to the mid-4th century. Discovered during archaeological research between 2014 and 2016, these findings reveal a multi-room, brick-floored structure partially equipped with heating.

The Romanesque church, built in the 11th–12th centuries, incorporates stones from the Roman fortress. Visitors can see its original foundation walls in the crypt. Over the centuries, the church has undergone various transformations:
- 12th century: Major reconstruction
- 14th century: Addition of the sanctuary aisle, featuring the Throne Madonna fresco in a central niche, discovered during restoration in 2010.
- 15th century: Gothic renovations, including painted depictions of Christ’s Passion on the seating niches’ stone elements.
The church houses relics of three Hungarian saints:
- Saint Ladislaus: His relic is kept in a Renaissance masterpiece pastorellum, donated by Pest in 1507.
- Saint Elizabeth of Hungary: A relic honors her 1211 engagement to Hermann, Margrave of Thuringia, at age four.
- Saint Gerard: His relics, after over 950 years, returned to their original resting place in 2002 from Murano, Italy.
Tower Lookout
In June 2020, a tower lookout opened in the southern tower, accessible by lift to the first and second levels. From these floors, visitors enjoy panoramic views of the Pest side. The roof structure offers a unique perspective, complete with a time-lapse video of Budapest’s day-and-night life.
Descending via the Liszt Ferenc Tower’s stairs, visitors retrace the steps once used by the renowned Hungarian composer in the 19th century.
