Discover a captivating site in Buda’s Víziváros district, where you can step back over a century in history. Nestled among old apartment buildings and modern glass towers on Bem József Street, you’ll find a 19th-century factory building with a distinctive sawtooth brick façade. This was once the factory of Abraham Ganz, where the world-famous chilled cast iron railway wheels were produced based on Ganz’s patent.

The factory operated until 1964, after which it was declared Buda’s first industrial monument. In 1969, the building reopened as Central Europe’s first foundry museum. Beneath its nearly 160-year-old wooden roof structure, you’ll find massive cauldrons, elegant revolving cranes, and a colossal cupola furnace showcasing the art of foundry work. From cannons to intricate 19th-century artistic cast iron objects, the collection is a blend of utility and beauty.
The museum also features a unique “ringing casting” bell collection that visitors can interact with.
