Introduction
The Postal Museum delights those interested in Hungarian postal history with a unique collection. Visitors can explore various historic tools, uniforms, and even try out the pneumatic post system, telegraph machines, and manual telephone exchanges.
About the Museum
Few people know that the Hungarian Royal Postal Service (simultaneously with the Austrian postal service) was the first in the world to introduce postcards. At the Millennium Exhibition, it even had its own pavilion showcasing the telephone newspaper, complete with a gilded receiver designed for Emperor Franz Joseph!
The Postal Museum preserves 150 years of Hungarian postal history and artifacts. The exhibition is located on the second floor of the beautifully restored Benczúr Palace in Budapest.
Exhibitions
Pioneers
This interactive exhibition highlights areas where the Hungarian Royal Postal Service was groundbreaking. Many exhibits are hands-on, allowing visitors to operate a telephone switchboard, create telegrams, and explore the workings of a 20th-century post office.
Temporary Exhibitions
The annual temporary exhibitions explore specific areas of postal history, offering visitors new perspectives on the everyday life of the Hungarian Post.
